Iconic Bags That Have Made a Comeback

Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Trends come and go – but sometimes they come back, especially when we’re talking about fashion. It’s a cyclical industry after all and who doesn’t love rediscovering an old favourite?

Designer bags are an investment and, because so many iconic bags have graced runways and high streets over the years, they’re bound to come back into fashion. This is fabulous news for those who have them tucked away in their wardrobe but also for those who missed out on them in the first place.

Whether the brands themselves rereleased them or there was a resurgence among vintage sellers, we’re looking at some of the most iconic designer bags that have made a comeback.

Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Louis Vuitton isn’t short of memorable bag designs but the Neverfull is definitely a fan favourite. The easy-to-wear tote bag was created in 2010 and was seen on the arms of celebrities like Hilary Duff, Katie Holmes, and Reese Witherspoon.

It fell out of favour when larger bags briefly lost their appeal but, with its practical and timeless design, has made a comeback in the last couple of years. Searches for the Neverfull on second-hand sites have risen significantly and Louis Vuitton has released newer versions. You’re almost spoilt for choice.

Best For: Running errands

Prada Re-nylon

We love it when fashion houses embrace eco-friendly designs. The Re-nylon is made from recyclable regenerated nylon yarn but still has the luxurious quality you’d expect from Prada.

The original came out in the early 2000s so it makes sense why they’ve made a comeback as the Y2K trend remains popular. It’s the perfect simple but chic mini shoulder bag and the rereleased versions come in a stunning selection of colours so you can match them to your aesthetic easily.

Best For: Date night

Fendi Baguette

Created by the granddaughter of Fendi’s founder in 1997, the Baguette bag is the definition of iconic. The bag is genuinely inspired by its namesake, with Silvia Venturini Fendi noticing how many Parisian women would hold a baguette by carrying it under their arms. It’s longer than it is tall, the ideal shape for fitting under your arm, and it put Fendi on the map when it comes to accessories.

A favourite of Sex & the City’s Carrie Bradshaw before it was discontinued in the 2010s, the bag was brought back in 2019 with Gigi Hadid and Zoe Kravitz being seen with one. The Sex & the City reboot, Just Like That, would also feature a Baguette bag, redesigned by Sarah Jessica Parker herself.

Best For: Girls night out

Gucci Jackie 1961

With the trendy crescent shape and unique piston closure, you’d be forgiven if you mistook this bag for a more modern creation but it’s actually a bit of fashion history. Originally named the Constance, former first lady Jackie’O was such a fan of this bag, owning multiple, that Gucci renamed it after her.

Despite being one of the most popular designer bags of the 60s and 70s, the Jackie would eventually fade out, but it was never forgotten. It was brought back in 2020 with some minor tweaks and more colours to pick from so now, you can capture that vintage look.

Best For: Effortless style

Dior Saddle Bag

The Dior Saddle Bag has been seen everywhere recently but you may not have known that it was originally popular in the early 2000s after debuting in 1999 in Dior’s spring/summer 2000 ready-to-wear show, designed by John Galliano. Its namesake shape made it stand out from the crowd and it became associated with seduction making it popular upon young ‘it girl’ types.

It became a viral sensation after its comeback in 2018 and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. The Saddle Bag has been worn by celebs like Beyoncé, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lawrence and Elle Macpherson.

Best For: Making a style statement

Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag

Another defining accessory of the early to mid naughties, the Motorcycle Bag was designed to survive whatever day-to-day life threw at you. Nicole Richie, Lindsy Lohan, Paris Hilton, Mary-Kate Olsen, Kate Moss – you name a Y2K celeb and they probably owned one.

Though the oversized, somewhat slouchy designed had critics skeptical at first, it proved to be a hit and still has the hearts of many a fashion-lover over two decades on from its first release. Balenciaga has ended up bringing this pop-culture favurite back, rebranded as Le City bag.

Best For: Going from day to night

Salvatore Ferragamo Iconic Top Handle

For a bag to be named Iconic, it has to be pretty special and this Salvatore Feffagamo truly is. The Italian craftsmanship, with A-line shape in abraded calfskin and Gancini lock closure, is so glamorous, capturing the runway vibe of the 90s, where it originally made its mark.

Created by Fiamma Ferragamo, the daughter of the brand’s founder, the Iconic Top Handle bag screams old money and has now returned in the 2020s to elevate a new generation of outfits.

Best For: Afternoon tea

Bottega Veneta Hobo

A staple of the Bottega brand since its inception, the Veneta Hobo has found new life in the 2020s after being redesigned by former creative director, Daniel Lee. Simple but unique, it features Bottega’s signature intrecciato weave and knot design and has been worn by celebs like Miley Cyrus and Cameron Diaz.

Oversized bags come in and out of fashion, but this one has stood the test of time. If you love the look but want a smaller bag, the Veneta has a little sister, the Jodie
