The best things to do this Autumn

September 24, 2025 | Posted in Blog

Is there a season more perfect than Autumn? Crisp mornings and cosy evenings, but you don’t have to wear too many layers just yet – what’s not to love?

When the leaves start falling, we’re instantly in the mood for some Autumnal activities, so in this blog, we’re taking a look at the best things to do during this glorious time of year. It’s a mix of things you can share with your favourite people and things you can do while relaxing by yourself (and no, it isn’t just watching Gilmore Girls on repeat but that will be mentioned).

When is Autumn?

Most of us have a rough idea of when the Fall season is, but believe it or not, the leaves changing colour and pumpkin spice lattes being on sale aren’t actually how we define when Autumn is – doesn’t stop us getting excited on our walk to Starbucks though.

In the UK, the Autumn months are September, October, and November. For us in the northern hemisphere, the beginning of Autumn will technically begin at the end of September, which is when the autumnal equinox happens.

Once it starts to get a bit chilly and it gets dark before 8 pm, we know summer is over, and it’s time for Autumn vibes and picking out our Halloween costumes.

Things we love doing in Autumn

Let’s look at what the team at Your Dream Bag enjoy doing when Autumn rolls around.

Long walks

Whether you need a break to clear your head, you’re spending time with a loved ones or out with your dog, there is nothing like a walk during Autumn. The air is refreshing and, if you pick the right route, you’ll get to see all the warm colours in nature that come out during this time of year. Don’t get us started on walking on a misty morning before heading home for a Sunday lunch.

Walking is good for our physical and mental health, so if you’re able to go, get those steps in and pop out for a least 15 minutes a day this Autumn. We recommend walking in public woodlands to really match the mood.

Catching up over a hot drink

We’ve already mentioned that it’s PSL season but all hot drinks are welcome this time of year. Whether you grab a coffee to go or sit down with a hot choccy, take it as an opportunity to have a chat with one of your favourite people or take a moment to yourself.

Watching a comfort show

Darker evenings do tend to make us stay in more but, that’s not a problem as that’s just an excuse to watch our favourite cosy show. You could choose from older shows like Gilmore Girls, Friends, and Charmed or you can pick out a new show to snuggle up and watch, like Ted Lasso or Only Murders In The Building.

Whatever show (or film) you pick, we’d recommend feel good vibes but, everyone’s comfort show is different so, grab a blanket and some snacks and just enjoy whatever you fancy.

Decorate your home

These days, there’s home decor for every season and we’re here for it. Think rustic wood pieces, pumpkins, and rich, warm colours. Then when Halloween gets closer, you can add some fun, spooky bits.

You can also prep your home for the colder weather by getting your favourite throws and cushions out – perfect for a cheeky nap too!

Top it all off by lighting a seasonally-appropriate candle. There’s a whole host of scents to pick from and you’ll love the ambiance.

Enjoy seasonal activities

From pumpkin picking to bonfire night, there’s a lot to get excited about during the Autumn period. Have a little look at what’s going on in your area, and get involved or arrange something yourself for friends and family.

Update your wardrobe

Though we adore this time of year, it does come with the challenge of wondering what to wear. The weather flip flops a little, leaving you cold in the morning and then overheated after midday.

This definitely justifies you treating yourself to some new clothes and accessories that suit your Autumnal style. Even if you’re a little sad to let summer go, a few new transitional pieces like a light jacket, boots you can wear with any fit, or a fab Autumn bag to tie it all together could definitely get you in the mood for a new season.

The Coach Empire carryall and shearling earmuffs, plus the Jacquemus wool scarf (+ so much more) from our autumn bundle, are all perfect additions to your wardrobe and might make the change of weather something to look forward to.

Go stargazing

The sun setting earlier and earlier is a downside to autumn, but there is also a positive to this. Did you know that stars become more visible in the sky this time of year? Some constellations even return as the days get shorter.

Why not take advantage and take a little nighttime trip to go look at the night sky? It’s simple but effective, plus it’s a pretty smooth date idea – ooh la la!

Be a little crafty

There’s just something about arts & crafts and Fall that just go together. You can use natural resources like fallen leaves and pine cones to make a wreath for your front door or pick up a new cosy hobby like knitting. You could even make your own Halloween costume for the year. Did we mention pumpkin carving? Because that is a must in October.
